None of these need anything from pulz - no plugin, no download - because every one of them can already open a URL, such as https://pulz.bio/t/YOUR-KEY/panic. Start by copying the URL for the one action you want the key to do.
Get the URL first
- Open your dashboard and pick Automations in the sidebar.
- Find the action you want in the list.
- Press the copy button on that row. Each row's URL already contains example arguments, such as ?to=2. Edit those in the field you paste into.
Elgato Stream Deck
A physical key that switches scenes or drops the privacy screen. No plugin to install.
- Drag the System > Website action onto an empty key.
- Paste your trigger URL into the URL field.
- Tick “GET request in background” (newer Stream Deck versions keep it with the Website action's browser options) so pressing the key does not open a browser window.
- Give the key a name and an icon, and you are done.
iPhone or iPad
Run the same actions from your phone, or from the Lock Screen.
- Open Shortcuts and create a new shortcut.
- Add the action Get Contents of URL and paste your trigger URL.
- Rename the shortcut, then add it to your Home Screen or a Lock Screen button.
- Say “Hey Siri, privacy screen” if you name it that way.
A keyboard shortcut
Bind a key on your own machine with a short script.
- Install AutoHotkey v2 (Windows), or use Shortcuts or Automator (Mac).
- Add a hotkey line such as ^!p::Run "YOUR_TRIGGER_URL" (that is Ctrl+Alt+P), using a key combination you are not already using.
- Run the script.
Streamer.bot or Mix It Up
Already running a bot? Have it call pulz for the parts that live on the web.
- Add a Fetch URL / HTTP Request sub-action to any action.
- Paste your trigger URL as the target.
- Fire it from any trigger your bot already has - a channel point, a command, a hotkey.
IFTTT or Zapier
Connect a pulz action to anything else you automate.
- Create an applet with whatever trigger you like.
- Choose the Webhooks action and set the method to GET.
- Paste your trigger URL as the target.
Hand a button to a mod
A trusted mod can fire an action from their phone without your login.
- Copy one action's URL - a single URL only does that one thing.
- Send it to your mod. They can bookmark it or add it to their Home Screen.
- Rotate your trigger key on the Automations page if you ever want to take it back.
Changing what a key does
Arguments live in the query string, so one key becomes another by editing the URL in the field you already pasted it into. /scene?to=3 goes to scene 3, /timer?do=pause&key=break pauses a timer called break, and /counter?key=deaths&do=add&value=1 adds a death. The full list is in Your trigger URL.
FAQ
Do I need a pulz plugin for Stream Deck?
No. The Website action ships with Stream Deck, so there is nothing to install and nothing to keep updated.
Will pressing the key open a browser window?
On Stream Deck, not if you tick “GET request in background”. A shortcut using Get Contents of URL and a bot's Fetch URL sub-action never open a window either. An AutoHotkey line and a plain bookmark do open a page, and that page tries to close itself after about a second.
Can a mod use this without a pulz account?
Yes. It is a link, so there is no login and they never see your dashboard. What they can reach is covered in Keeping your keys safe.
Nothing happened when I pressed the key. What now?
Open the same URL in a browser. The page that opens says what happened in one line, which is usually enough: No scenes yet, That timer is not running, or a 404 page if the URL is wrong.
